Our standard LSS-2380 warning module with visual and audible warning abilities mounts cleanly on the surface of the wall beside the entry door. The posted warning sign references this module to warn of the present laser state.
The warning meets the requirements of ANSI Z136.1-2007, sections 4.3.9.4, 4.3.9.4.1, and 4.3.9.4.2

LSS-2381 Interlock control module to arm and disarm the laser interlock system. It is mounted on the wall surface at a convenient location in the laser area. The yellow illuminated arming button reminds workers in the area when the system is armed.

LSS-2384 Laser/Shutter Interface Module attaches to the laser power supply interlock connector. It is mounted on the wall near the laser power supply or right to the side of the laser table. The interlock system 24VDC power is brought in at this location from a wall-wart power supply at the same time the relay contacts for the laser are brought out.

A client on a tight budget wanted the basic "lowest cost" system for a class 4 laser area with two lasers and one door.
When budget constraints are an issue, the non-defeatable door interlock is your best bet.
When a non-defeatable interlock is placed on a door, there is no need to purchase entryway curtains or construct laser table enclosures. The entire room essentially becomes an interlocked class 1 enclosure for the class 4 lasers contained within.
This is the ANSI preferred method of creating a class 4 laser area. It has one drawback in the fact that the interlock will instantly trip if the door is opened, so its application is limited to those situations where a laser operator can remain in the room during the experiment.
NOTE: Some clients use this configuration to form a "temporary" class 4 enclosure during laser alignment. In this scenario, the client has a class 1 table enclosure that is interlocked in "parallel" with the room interlock. In this method of operation, if the enclosure is intact, the room interlock does not need to be armed for the laser to run. If the enclosure is opened for alignment, the room interlock must be armed and the door must remain closed or the interlock will instantly trip.
Laser Safety Systems recommends the following solution:
One LSS2387 Door/Curtain Closure Module with dual position sensors is placed on the door. With this module in place, an opening of the door will immediately trip the room interlock.
